The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) and the Graduate Division Dean’s Office designated fellowship awards to seed new graduate student research for social and population science (SocPop) PhD students. The award is designed to harness the expertise and skills of UCSF’s SocPop PhD students. The goal of this award is to promote collaborations that lead to tangible deliverables in the short-term and have potential to catalyze longer-term collaborations beyond the award cycle .

Sutina Chou was awarded a doctoral fellowship from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Esperanza Padilla was awarded an NIH Diversity Supplement from the National Institute of Aging. This award will provide Esperanza with mentored research opportunities to advance the Shift Project’s investigation into precarious dimensions of job quality in the service sector. This project will help fill in the gap in knowledge about how unpredictable scheduling practices, automation, and technology impact worker health and healthy aging.
