Kate LaForge, a Doctoral candidate in Sociology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, was awarded $42,806 from the Agency for Health Research Quality (AHRQ) Health Services Research Dissertation Grant (R36) for her project, "Unraveling Crisis Text Services: Perceptions and Experiences among Low-income Young Adults with Suicidal Ideation". Suicide is a leading cause of death for young adults, which worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
