The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) announces a search for a temporary instructor position, during the academic terms FY 18 and FY 2019 (roughly March 15, 2018 – June 30, 2019). The selected candidate will be appointed as Adjunct Instructor. We are seeking sociologists or social scientists who will serve as substitute instructors with expertise to teach a graduate-level seminar/course in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Major areas of responsibility include: teaching courses in the Sociology or Health Policy Programs; and course-related advising of PhD students in Sociology program or PhD or Master’s students in the Health Policy program. This is a part-time position and appointed between 10% to 25% effort depending on courses or seminars taught. Adjunct Instructors are individuals who contribute primarily to teaching and have limited responsibility for research or other creative work.
Requirements:
• Advanced to candidacy (ABD) in sociology (for courses in sociology) or nursing or social sciences (for health policy courses)
• Ability to teach sociology, sociological theory, health policy, medical sociology, organizational theory, long term care or quantitative research at the graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in sociology (for sociology courses) or nursing or social sciences (for health policy courses)
• Previous teaching experience at the graduate level

The Program in Nursing & Health Policy’s principal aim is to educate Master’s and PhD students interested in academic careers in nursing with an emphasis on the study of policy issues in nursing, public health, health systems, and health care. Coursework in the program is aimed at enabling students to develop their understanding of and capacities to use theory; develop research skills and statistical capacities; and develop skills in strategic policy analysis; and for PhD students, develop the focused, independent research project necessary for completion of the doctoral dissertation. All students are prepared for leadership roles that will ultimately contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession and the field of health policy.
