Alumni News: Egorin named Assistant Secretary for Legislation at HHS

Today, House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released a statement after President Biden nominated Health Subcommittee Deputy Staff Director and professional tax staffer, Melanie Anne Egorin, Ph.D, to serve as the next Assistant Secretary for Legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services. Read the announcement, here.

Melanie Egorin is a graduate of the SBS, Sociology Program (2004). Dr. Egorin spent 9 years working in the US House of Representatives as Deputy Staff Director for the Committee on Ways and Means, Subcommittee on Health where she worked to refine and defend the Affordable Care Act and Medicare She has now been tapped by the Biden Administration to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Legislation at the Health and Human Services Agency.

While she was a doctoral student at UCSF, she was Director of External Affairs for the Graduate Student Association.
